Since the garage conversion, the Clinic has gone from strength to strength and we are now treating many more babies and children than before. The Clinic operates as a conventional clinic with therapists treating fee paying adults and children and all of our income, after we have paid for outgoings, is used to subsidise on average 500 treatments a year to disadvantaged and disabled babies and children from low income families in Cornwall. We have a team of enthusiastic volunteers who act as receptionists and fundraisers, and we have had little or no fundraising to do since the conversion as the charity has proved itself to be viable and sustainable, delivering a much needed service that is not offered anywhere else in Cornwall.
Unfortunately, last winter’s wet weather made two of our practice rooms in the old part of the building extremely damp and unusable for a period. Structural Surveyors carried out a structural survey of the building and found that the stones that make up the 200 year old wall were porous and in a bad state of repair. They recommended slate hanging the wall, and dry lining the inside walls. It cost £25,000 to carry out all the recommended repairs, and we were very lucky to obtain the necessary funding from the Clare Milne Trust, the Duchy Health Charity, Fowey River Lions, Bodmin Lions and Wadebridge Lions and many other supporters, as well as a very generous donor who wished to remain anonymous.
The building work has been carried out to a very high standard by local builder Jeremy Allen of John Ryder, and all four practice rooms are now back in full working order. The end wall that was causing the problems has been hung with slates, and we raised another £600 by engraving the names of our each of our donors on the slates!
A very big thank you to everyone who gave so generously to ensure we could continue treating the disadvantaged to children. We couldn’t do it without you!
